Protect Hanaiti

HARURU. Land that trembles. Heart that beats.

There is a place in Huahine, hidden and sacred.

They call it Hanaiti, but its true name is HARURU — the trembling.

Not a trembling of fear…
A trembling of life.
Of mana.
Of everything this land whispers to those who know how to listen.

There, the trees protect.
The lagoon cradles.
The cliff keeps watch.

It is a place where people come to reconnect, to heal, to belong.

But today, this sacred place is under threat.

What is happening?

Developers are looking at this valley for projects like a private resort, luxury hotel, or timeshares that would sell units to multiple foreign co-owners who would take turns staying there each year. Yes, these projects promise some jobs, but at what cost? Would Huahine residents and visitors still get to enjoy this sacred place? Will Haururu's mana and story be erased?

What should we do ?

1

We ask you ...

Is it worth it — here, on this land?

  • Will our children still walk barefoot along its paths?

  • Will our elders still come here to reflect and connect?

  • Or will it require a badge and a credit card to see what once belonged to all of us?

2

Risks of such a project ...

  • Restricting local access to exceptional natural sites,

  • Destroying fragile, irreplaceable ecosystems,

  • Erasing the sacred character of land that must be honored,

  • Creating social tensions between profit and respect for life.

3

What if we imagined something else ?

A project rooted in our values, serving both the community and the fenua:

  • A cultural and environmental center to share our knowledge,

  • Respectful, paid tourism activities,

  • Workshops, guided walks, and local productions,

  • Sustainable jobs tied to our culture, nature, and future.

🌺 Your voice matters for the future of Hanaiti! 🌺
